When it comes time to service your filter, pulling a bag of media out is much easier and less messy than trying to clean your filter with loose media inside. These bags are made of fine mesh so that water circulates freely around and throughout the media. Fill the filter media bag with loose media, such as bio rings for biological filtration, activated carbon for chemical filtration, or crushed coral to help increase pH. Tighten the draw string and tie shut with a bow or knot that can be undone if needed. If the filter media bag becomes covered in debris over time, remove it from the filter and rinse it in a container of old tank water.
